All 72 power wielding, vote casting members of the AP placed Illinois #1 this week. I was happy to see that and a little sad at the same time. I was afraid it might be short lived run at the very top of the mountain.
Wow, was I ever wrong. An 81-68 victory over Michigan St. that included 13 3pt field goals and 12 steals and only 10 turn overs. Well, no longer will I continue to be surprised as this team clearly understands what lies ahead at each and every challenge.
Call it great coaching, exceptional guard play, tremendous scoring balance or a flat out dream come true for the Illini Nation, but I truly believe this team has a great chance at finishing the Bigten season unbeaten.
I told Kenny and a few other friends that I really wanted to see a 14-2 Bigten campaign. Well, my friends, I believe that will happen and it has a good chance of being even better.
So, if it turns out we do not end up finishing the Bigten season undefeated, where do you think we slip up? I have two in mind, both on the road and one is pretty obvious. Feb. 19th at Iowa and the final game of the regular season, at Ohio St. IIRC, OSU took us down to the wire last year when we played them in Columbus and I was pretty surprised by their level of play when they came to Champaign at the beginning of the year.
However it end, it has been one hell of a ride and I hope every Illini fan is enjoying every moment this team is on the floor. It is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Go Illini!!!
All for now.
